So a friend/client managed your money for you and made you $800,000 more than you would have made if you had done it yourself and you wouldn’t give them anything? I sort of figured there would be some people here who would say that, but it’s still surprising to hear.
Let me add another wrinkle. Bob doesn’t want to do it anymore because it takes a lot of time and adds a lot of stress. Jill is interested in retaining his services and wants to send a gift to show appreciation and hopefully convince Bob to keep helping her. What kind of gift would be fair in that scenario?
