You will be numb for a long while, a vacuum will exist, but at some point
you will feel a mixture of sadness and happiness for your mutual experiences. Your father sounds like a real dad.
Your bouts of sadness will come and go and never disappear. The excruciating pain will dull over time. Allow yourself to grieve and grieve well.
Life won't be the same, and you will have hollowness where warmth once filled it, but you are alive and well-taught because of the good man your father is.
Not to make this about anyone other than yourself, I recently experienced the same loss, so that's why I'm familiar with your loss. May you receive the comfort your deserve.

I'm really sorry to hear that. My dad sounds a LOT like your dad. Where was he living? You live in San Diego now, right?
