IMO, he is thoroughly underrated by some CBers as a coach and as a good person who has earned the respect and loyalty of his players, especially his former players, who are outstanding recruiters for his program. It also says something positive about him that he has remained at SMC in the face of many enticing opportunities.
A few years ago, we recall BYU coaches siting the most well attended seminar at the NCAA FF by D-1 coaches was conducted by Randy Bennett on PNR and offensive basketball that moved and inspired the BYU coaches and many others seeking the new knowledge so well executed by modern thinkers who utilize the emergent analytics. Bennett has been one of the leaders.
My belief is that it is completely wrongheaded to suggest RB is the opposite of that.
It is true that Pope and his staff are on board, up to date, effective at executing this stuff, and a fabulous inspiration and recruiter. BYU has never had a better coach.
