Once I got to BYU, I realized the error of my ways in Jr. High and HS.
It was pretty rampant at my HS, and I just became conditioned to believing that it was OK, even though deep down inside I knew that it wasn't. It wasn't that I couldn't do the work, but I instead chose the easy route in a few of my classes. During my freshman orientation at BYU, I realized that a lot of the things that I had done in the past were not going to ever be OK, so I made a commitment to myself that I wouldn't ever do those things again, and I faithfully stuck to it. During those years, I made a few friends and classmates mad when I wouldn't allow them to cheat off of my work.

When I was in grad school, we had a take home final that we were expressly told had to be done individually. Our program was very groupwork-oriented so we were used to collaborating on projects, but we were expected to do our own work on tests. Some of my classmates decided to cheat and work on the final as a group, but they got busted because one of the team members had made an unusual error in an Excel formula on one of the problems, and they all had the same unusual error. They all should have honestly been kicked out of the program (based on University policy), but they instead all failed the class and got put onto academic probation and had to take additional coursework to make up for the failed class. Their reputations were shattered within the program, and none of them were able to receive any kind of academic or program honors at graduation.
