I think a big blow to BYU was the 2014 season. It started out great with the big wins and all that BCS busting talk and then Taysom got hurt, and he got hurt the night BYU was retiring the number of the most influential single player in program history-the venerable JimboMotherFetchin'McMahon himself. It was a distraughtful event to lose Taysom and lose to USU the night we immortalized the one player whose exploits did more for the program than any mortal save LaVell Edwards himself. It was getting easy then to just view the entire situation surrounding the program as more and more hopeless.
But I guess we all held on and the light did come. Age does give you patience, but there were times I wondered how or what BYU could do to lift itself again. There were some rays of hope along the way but until 2020 it was always so fleeting and almost impossible to sustain success.
