All I know is that my grandparents used to raise chickens.

They had two coops - one was maybe 10X20 or 12x20. They easily had more than 100 chickens in that coop. They never let them outside.

How many chickens do you want/need? I would think you could start with some and if you find there's room for more, get more. If you find it's too cramped for them - then you have chicken for dinner.

Probably 6-10 to start with...we had 6 in AZ, then 5 when 1 disappeared.
