So, to maximize exposure outside of a BCS bowl (and also to ease the burden of athletic department finances) BYU is planning to play a much wider variety of teams than the usual MWC and 4-game OOC fare.
While it makes scheduling more difficult for the AD, I like the idea of watching BYU play a broad assortment of teams, even if they aren't all "name" teams.
Of course, if the Big 12 or PAC 16 were to make an offer that further eased the burden of athletic department finances, then BYU would probably accept, even though it would mean playing within the same set of conference teams every year.
Exposure is important, but so is paying the bills. Independence is currently the best option to accomplish both.
