We usually set aside an allotted amount each birthday/holiday, which we can then save up for something we want later. Everything my husband wants is too expensive for us to buy, so this way he can have the money saved up for something nice that he really wants. I also like it because no matter how many times I hint or even flat out tell him what I would like, he still struggles getting gifts, and usually wants me to pick somthing out anyway. So now I can get whatever I want as well. Works for us.
