It was the first Monday Night Football game of the year. Raiders fans had high hopes, since it was the beginning of the year. The Bolts crushed their team and their hopes. My son learned some new words and hand gestures from the predictably classy Raiders fans.
It started when we were in line for the metal detector at the entrance, when the whole line started giving a couple of women a hard time, who walked by in Chargers jerseys. Ended witnessing fights in the parking lot at the end. That kind of stuff probably goes on at all NFL stadiums, but the Raiders fans definitely lived up to their reputation. Can only imagine what it would have been like in the vaunted "Black Hole."
Luckily, I gave my son a pep talk on how to appropriately cheer for his team when a visitor. A couple of times he wanted to come unglued at the Raiders fans disrespect for the team that was crushing them. That would not have ended well . . .
