Knowing what bugger means in most English speaking countries, I am surprised how
often people use the word in America. I think Americans use it to describe someone who is bugging or bothering them. I watched my Australian friend's face when we had a bishop call himself an old bugger from the pulpit. That may have been one of the funniest things I have ever seen.
