My wife and I, neither of us from Utah, being sick and tired of hearing how nobody wants to come to the Ward activities because they are always the same and always boring, decided to hijack the activity. Luckily, this was the summer of '08, so we had an easy theme. We had the Ward Olympics, complete with slip-n-slides, water fights, dizzy-bats, obstacle courses, chocolate coin medals for the kids, and everybody RAVED about how amazing the activity was.
If I'm being honest, I think the bishop got a bit offended. We were out of that calling by the next year. This year, there'll be yet another wear-your-bonnet Pioneer Day breakfast on Saturday morning (at 8am! WTY?), that everyone we've talked to is already saying they're thinking twice about because it sounds so boring.
