In some, this turns them away. But with wise parental guidance, they can understand that not having a 3.9 GPA AND a 29+ ACT doesn't make them a bad person or disqualify them from cheering for BYU. They can get a perfectly good degree at UVU or USU or sometimes even at Utah, with their much lower standard of admission and academics, and still wear blue. OK, it's not a BYU degree, but we understand, we really do.
I knew an AWFUL lot of SoCal folks who were rabid USC or UCLA fans who had neither the grades nor the resources to attend those schools, but got decent jobs out of Fullerton State or UC Riverside.
Everyone should just cheer for BYU. Makes things so much simpler.
