They got inside of Utah's 30 yard line TWICE. They kicked one field goal and threw one interception in those visits. Michigan was not getting into scoring position, unless you think mid-field is scoring position. They got inside of Utah's 40 yard line THREE times the entire game. But they had less 3 and outs, so they had that going for them. If only that stat actually mattered, at all.
You claim that Michigan moved the ball better. Michigan ran 75 plays for 308 yards (avg of 4.1 yards per play). Utah ran 64 plays for 286 yards (avg of 4.5 yards per play). The discrepancy in the passing game was much worse. Michigan was 18-39 for 190 yards (avg of 4.9 ypa, not even mentioning the 3 interceptions as well). That isn't going to win you many ball games.
Utah was much more efficient through the air. 18-27 for 205 yards (avg of 7.6 ypa).
Utah's offense was much more efficient than Michigan's. Anybody who watched the game would have noticed this.
