specifically, but to his detriment, it's an ongoing problem 7 games into the season that should have been addressed prior to the season.
Sadly it's taking actual game performance in order for the players to be evaluated correctly. This has happened for multiple years now.
We are using failures during games and loses to figure out what's wrong. That may have worked back in the MWC when your goal was to win the conference and use the first 3 to 4 games as pre-season.
That can't work now.
The team needs to be correctly evaluated AND prepared for game 1 and then during the season only minor tweaks here are there throughout the season. You flipping patch the cracks as soon as you see them, even if you are winning.
What we are doing now and the last few years is having to scrap all evaluations and plans going into the season because the disconnect between preparation and performance is very big.
It doesn't appear this problem is an outlier, but systemic.
It just seems every year BYU is a monster all through fall camp. All the stars align, outlook is bright, etc. and then comes the season.
You can tinker with the team and scheme but it seems this engine is never ready for the rigors of a 12 to 13 game season and we're regularly dropping the tranny on the ground while trying to shift into second gear.
