Both Utah and TCU and Boise had NFL qbs (besides Johnson but still a ton of nfl talent on that team), no injuries and favorable home schedules(tough games at home and ball bouncing their way)

NIU finished ranked #22 and Hawaii ranked #19. Bronco has done better.
