What is the threshold for "great player" - is it higher than NBA Hall of Famer? Allen Iverson was never one of my favorite players (actually, to be honest I couldn't stand the guy), but I think a guy who was a 10 time all star that finished in the top 10 in MVP voting 7 times, including winning once, qualifies as a great player.
In fact, I'm pretty comfortable using this as a rule of thumb - if you win an NBA MVP award, you are a great player.
