football criticisms. I don't get the hand-wringing by so many about Bronco's approach to the spiritual aspects of BYU. It's BYU, for crying out loud! But some fans, particularly a bunch around CB, are making a false connection between Bronco's promotion of those spiritual aspects and mediocre results on the field. The two are not related. I can make a great argument that the results on the field would be worse if Bronco were to ignore those aspects.
We never hear Howell talk about spiritual stuff, but the consensus around here is that he is a bad coach and has to go. Fine. Opinions regarding Howell are football-based, as they should be. There are lots of bad coaches that don't care a hoot about spiritual stuff. With Bronco, however, so much of the vitriol towards him is centered around the spiritual stuff. It just drives some people crazy, and it even twists their view of the product on the field. I say let's judge coaches according to the product on the field. Those of us that appreciate Bronco's efforts to promote the unique aspects of BYU can applaud him for it, but we should still expect him to deliver the wins. No coach at BYU should be (and they aren't) excused for doing a bad job coaching because they do a good job with the spiritual stuff.
