A few conference expansion predictions
I'm sitting here watching the Louisville - Kentucky basketball slugfest and have been mulling over conference expansion, which just seems like a guarantee to happen again in the next few years as the SEC, BIG10 and ACC all get to 16 teams (I don't think the PAC12 will expand simply because of geographic location and lack of worthy teams).

Here is my best guess at what happens over the next few years-

1- Texas and Oklahoma bolt to the SEC. It just makes too much financial and competitive logic -

Plus, look at this map of current SEC teams -

The gap right above Texas looks very convenient and the SEC would hands down be the best conference in football.

2- The BIG10 snags Oklahoma State and their pick of remaining Big12 teams or another ACC team as they get to 16. It makes television and financial sense.

3- The ACC then gets to pick, probably West Virginia and whoever has the highest value after the BIG10 is done. Or they can finally talk Notre Dame into giving up their quasi-football independence and become a full football member.

4- The Pac12 chills and loves it's west coast television time slot and 12 member configuration. They are strong enough at 12 to not be hurt by not going to 16.

5- BYU finally gets invited to the Big12, but it is now positioned outside of the Power 4 conferences. The conference will be sandwiched somewhere between the Group of 5 and Power 4. A special year and team will get into the college football playoff, but no guarantees until it is expanded to 8 teams (which I predict will happen before the current 12 year, 4 team format contract runs out.

Who knows, I could miss on all fronts, but it just seems like a no-brainer that the SEC, BIG10 and ACC are going to 16 teams. It's inevitable, and when it happens the dominoes will start falling again. Despite my post yesterday that the Big12 should be proactive and add Cinci, Memphis, Byu and Colorado State, I now believe the writing is on the wall - They will soon be poached and lose their Power Conference status.
