I looked down for a second (no traffic, middle of the night, road straight as an arrow), the car drifted onto the shoulder (about a 30 degree slope for draining) just as the road began to curve away from me. Without braking, I eased the car back onto the freeway but it launched off the shoulder. Wheels airborne. I rolled and slid on the roof for a quarter mile and ended up on the shoulder of oncoming traffic. When I climbed out, there was no apparent reason for the chicane in the middle of nowhere. The sheriff simply explained people usually don't survive rolling at the location (like it happened a lot) before writing me a wreckless driving ticket.
