People for years had been asking for caffeine, and sometimes it just takes the timing to be right, the leadership to be right, and frankly, other things of higher priority to not be taking up leaders' time. What I heard is frankly that caffeine on campus was just not a big issue---and it isn't. There are so many other things that are more important. But there had been enough discussion about it that when the Church clarified it wasn't against the WoW, there were people at BYU happy to make the change.
But then that FB group went to the media trying to put pressure on BYU.
My point, is that BYU isn't going to respond to media pressure that way. BYU will study out the issue, discuss it in councils, make a decision, and then just do it without fanfare. Personally, I like that way better.
My point is you don't get your way with BYU or the Church (or God for that matter) by going to the media to apply pressure.
