I believe the coaching staff is taking a big risk in heading into the 2015 season with zero healthy and/or experienced QBs in Spring camp. The worst case scenario is not that hard to imagine:
1) Taysom has a rehab setback and/or gets hurt early in the season
2) Elder Mangum pulls a hammy rehabbing from the mission and is sidelined
3) BYU is forced to roll with unproven and currently injured McCoy Hill and/or freshman Hoge.
If we get to item #3 with the tough 2015 schedule, things could get ugly quickly. I believe that the staff should have done whatever necessary to bring in a decent JC or transfer QB with at least some game experience, a la Christian Stewart (who actually was a very good JC QB but had flown under the radar and came back because he loved byu).
To start out with the QB cupboard bare and rely on an injury prone risk-taking QB and a current missionary just seems unwise.
But everyone seems convinced that the staff had no other options. Pretty sad if true. Can this staff show that it can finally successfully manage the QB situation? We'll see, but I think they are taking a pretty risky approach this year. Hope I'm wrong.
