And for the past 30 years, "My dog ate my homework" has been the funny lame excuse for slackers, and later, somehow, made the American lexicon. I'm surmising that my excuse filtered around locally, and it eventually grew into a national phenomenon. I think I'm famous, but nobody knows it was me that started the wave.
