I can't recommend it enough. I live just north of Big Sur and love it. Cambria, Cayucos and Morro Bay are all awesome points south of Big Sur. There aren't any mega resorts so you have to choose between a motel or a nice bed and breakfast (my wife and I stayed here in Cambria a few months back and it was very nice, though there are a bunch of other great places). And there are incredible running and hiking trails. 

If you want to stay close enough to drive to the game I guess you could do Santa Barbara too.

If you have to do Orange County try the Beachcomber Inn in San Clemente.
