Didn't stop Jason Kidd from being one of the best to play the game. Didn't stop Rondo from being a huge piece on a championship team. A guy who came up big time for them.
Very little remains to be seen with Payton. It's basically shooting. He'll be an elite distributor, rebounder, defender, and he'll find ways to score. He'll be a triple double machine and he'll be very dangerous on the right kind of team. He's also not the head case Rondo is. He's already way ahead of Rondo's rookie year.
One is above average so far. One is probably average. And one average to below average. They could all end up great and all have similar strengths and flaws. But that "brightest future" has quite a bit of catching up to do. They could/should all get there eventually.
But one is already pretty good.
