Do you think the honor code is the same at BYU today as it was in Lavell's day? (if you do, then I have some beautiful land to sell you)
Do you think the academic standard at BYU is the same today as it was in Lavell's day? (many of us would not get in to BYU today)
Do you think the college football landscape is the same today as was in Lavell's day? (How many recruits did Alabama come and take out of Utah while Lavell was the coach?)

Finally, does BYU have an offense that will innovate college football? No, we did during Lavell's time and most likely never will again. If you are counting that as a strike against Bronco then good luck ever hiring a new coach again.

Does BYU need to get better at putting guys in the NFL? Sure. But to compare Lavell to Bronco is comparing apples to oranges.
