The administration went guardrail to guardrail after the Crowton debacle. There was no way BM brings in any risks unless they pay his price (see KVN). If you rely too much on RM's, half of them come back and never reach their potential and if you avoid Black JC recruits, you end up with walk on's having to play a DB position.
I am not a BM fan, but I think the guy knows what type of player would make a difference and he passes on many of them as he does not want deal with the issues OK State and North Carolina have had to deal with.
Throw in the fact that BM has to deal with an HC that is more strict than church guidelines and the guy has no real chance. He downplays the NFL because he knows that he can never consistently attract that type of player unless he falls into his lap.
