Yeah, "pop" I guess was originally derived from "popular," as distinguished from
it's non-popular counterparts like jazz or symphonic. It's radio music.

When I think of pop, I'm generally thinking of something melody-driven, short, catchy, rhythmic. It can hybridize with rock, country, or whatever else. Take "pop-punk" for example. It's punk in form, but it's ultimately about the catchy melody.
