this might sound cheesy to some but I am a huge believer in united prayer bringing forth blessings that our own individual faith might be to weak (or in this case bruised) to achieve.
I will be going to the Fresno, CA temple tomorrow and put "Brother Russell's" name on the temple roll and pray for him and their family. the power of the atonement can heal all our wounds and make whole all our losses. for Brother Russell it may not be made whole "until heaven" as Elder Holland so eloquently put it here:

i will be praying for Brother Russell to be given the strength to "keep walking" to "keep trying" and to not "give up" in what has to be his darkest hour.
