He had a major heart attack and quintuple bypass when he was 54. During the surgery his deceased mother and other relatives came to "pick him up". My dad was a total mamas boy. He was so excited to see them but received the message that it wasn't time for him to go and he needed to go back until his children were grown. Not sure who it was that told him he had to come back. My youngest brother was about 7 at the time.
Sadly, he never told any of this to his kids, nor my mom, but told a few of his friends. I heard it either right before he died, or shortly thereafter.
He died about six months after my youngest brother left on his mission. He was a tough old farm boy. Had terminal cancer and worked (pharmacist standing 12 hours a day) until about a week before he died.
