I'm glad that we will only lose Harvey for the first half. The loss of Takitaki and Nacua really hurts defensively. Both are really good playmakers. Harvey has become the leader of the defense and we will really miss him for the first half.
Trey has had a very good fall camp. I think he is a potential playmaker on offense but our offense already has multiple playmakers and I don't think he will be missed as much. But I do think he will be a major contributor before the year is over. I think that he will earn progressively more playing time over the season. He may not have played that much in the first game anyway although I think he is just going to get better and better. He is one of the offensive players that I am most excited about for the future.
Overall, I'm a little frustrated about the losses but it could have been worse. From a defensive perspective, others will just have to step up. We do have some depth at linebacker although no one can replace Harvey in my opinion. His combination of strength, speed, and athleticism is unmatched by the other linebackers that could conceivably fill his role. We need to hang tough in the first half and hopefully he will inject renewed enthusiasm at the beginning of the second half. Bronco has stated that all of the other players on the defense play better when he is on the field. Having both Harvey and Nacua out at the same time really does hurt.
