Not sure if it's a state thing or an insurance thing, but we were not.
We contacted both our pediatrician and a psychologist office and were told by both that the pediatrician was the first step.
I'm learning some info with this conversation, btw. Thanks..

The first step is your pediatrician, who will refer you to a psychologist.

That is not correct. And a pediatrician is a licensed professional.
