Should they be given more chances? Sure! These guys were way down the depth chart going into fall camp. Then with all the injuries and especially throwing Tanner in there, you can't give all these guys enough reps during the week and expect the offense to execute at a high level.
Burt and Dye are significantly better than Carter, but as we saw from the botched handoff early in the game, their timing with Tanner is off and they haven't been incorporated into game situations in real game time. Right now you have to help Tanner so you give him people he's worked with.
I think it's a testament to adjustments and changes by Anae giving the 5th and 6th string running backs a chance over the #4 RB. I think they'll get more opportunities as they learn the playbook and get reps, but the last thing the coaches want to do is make them a one-trick pony and use them only on certain plays. It'll be even more predictable to know what we're doing if that happens.
