but probably a little strong here.
BYU can decide not to sell caffeinated beverages and BYU students/staff can still decide to purchase it, bring it onto campus, and consume it there. Not a big deal either way.
The honor code does seem to emphasize the code part more than the honor part. That being the case, it's probably a good idea to revisit some of the code provisions every four years or so to make sure they are relevant. This might be a good suggestion for the Amish as well.
The expulsion policy sounds harsh and probably unnecessary, but most of us know folks who have formally left the church and then become vocally and publicly antagonistic toward the church and its teachings. Not everyone is that way, perhaps not even most. But one can understand BYU being quite concerned about that happening on campus, so it's not all hypocrisy and unfounded fear even though those interpretations are worth considering.
On the other side, I do not actually know anyone affected by the expulsion policy, so it was not something that drove me nuts. Overall I don't feel a strong need to start from scratch on all the rules and restrictions, but I do think outside perspectives (including that of alumni and university donors) can provide valuable feedback as BYU tries to be something great and exemplary.
