I'm not all depressed or despondent about this season, and 9-3 overall is an improvement, but I also feel somewhat disappointed about the way that Utah finished the season. The team that showed up against Oregon was incredible- and although I never bought into the playoff hype- I thought Utah had a good chance of going to the Rose or Peach Bowl... but then that team never showed up again.
What's that line from The Rock? "Losers always whine about doing their best. Winners go home and [uh-oh] the prom queen." Did Utah have a decent season? Sure! But we didn't win the games that ultimately mattered- we won't be playing in the Pac-12 Championship game- and we're not co-champs. The word "co" carries the connotation that two things are equal... USC beat us. They're playing Stanford this Saturday. We're not. So, we're not co-champs! Applying meaningless superlatives to ourselves smacks of defensiveness and over-compensation.
