Simply put, if BYU's biggest recruit demographic is highly-rated LDS players, and Polynesians make up the majority of that group, then it would be foolish not to stress the importance of recruiting them. We obviously recruit some outside of that pool as well, but the pool that we recruit the most heavily and with which our chances are best is comprised largely of Polynesians. That's why there's so much necessity in getting them. Sure, there are plenty of highly-skilled white football players out there. But we don't have that much of a chance with most of them, because most of them aren't LDS. A large percentage of Polynesian recruits are LDS, so there are plenty of highly-rated players who we do have a chance with, who just happen to be Polynesian. It's not as if BYU is forsaking white recruits. We're whiter than most teams. We're also a lot more Poly than most teams. We're a lot less black than pretty much every other college team out there though.
