There are some classics that just shouldn't be remade. 84 Grad mentioned Casablanca, and that's a good one. But there are a host of others that shouldn't be remade for the same reason. "It's a Wonderful Life" has been remade a couple of times, and the remakes are terrible. That was one that shouldn't be redone. Many classic comedies as well--one of my favorite movies of all time is "What's Up Doc?"--no way should they remake that.

There are also a host of other movies that were just bad to begin with, so remaking them would just be stupid. But another interesting question might be "What movies SHOULD be remade?" Maybe I'll post that. I can't think of any at the moment, but I know I've been really disappointed in some movies that had good potential, but were just poorly done. OK, maybe Star Wars Episodes I-III, but that's not a really great example either.
