The top 4 in playoff, next 8 in NY6 bowls.
That would be this in 2015: Playoff is same, Clemson, Bama, OU, MSU remaining bowls are ranked by prestige:
Remaining NY6 are ranked by prestige:
- Rose
- Sugar
- Fiesta
- Peach
The next pair of teams go to the best bowl, so Rose is #5+6, Sugar is #7+8, etc
That results in:
- Rose Bowl - Iowa v. Stanford (exactly what is was anyway)
- Sugar Bowl - Ohio State v. Notre Dame (the Fiesta bowl lineup)
- Fiesta Bowl - Florida State v. North Carolina (UNC takes Houston's auto bid)
- Peach Bowl - TCU v Ole Miss (TCU finished ranked higher than OkState, but Ok State played in the NY6 because they finished tied in the Big12, TCU takes OKState's place)
So in a purely merit-based system, UNC takes Houston's auto bid and TCU takes OKState's place.
