Mystery of the Red Dot Helmets in Hawaii game on Oct. 26, 1989 is solved?
Just had a Hawaii fan/friend email me this.

A comment was added to the highlights of the Hawaii game that gives the answer to the reason why there was a Red Dot on the left side of the BYU helmets for that game.

Here is the video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LwnbkqkV0VI&lc=z13uedhhgpyoh3m5104cdflxowuyunmovcw&feature=em-comments

No need to watch the video as Hawaii beat BYU 56-7 with Detmer at QB.

The comment from a Barney Stinson says:
"The mystery of the Red Dot is now solved, after stumbling upon this from The Helmet Project i just found it weird that it had been completly forgotten in just 10 or 15 years so i made it a pet project. After scrolling through every mention of the game in the old Daily Universe and Provo Daily Herald archives i came up with a Flanders full of diddly. So i ran the trail cold until 7 years later in 2004. I was at a diner in Texarcana, TX and picked up a conversation from a pair of good ol' boys behind me who talked about 80s BYU games. Turns out they were on the grounds crew back in the day and had were talking about the Holiday Bowl against Penn St. which was just 2 months after the Dot Game. So naturally i asked and filled them in on the mystery involved which lead to some hearty laughter, because as it turns out the Red Dot was a prank pulled by the senior class of Hawai'i, they swapped out the left side logo for a red dot to represent a sniper's target, as in 'we have you in our sights'. Which given the 52-14 schellacing we got they were right. But, because of the prank and the lopsided score it was downplayed to the point to which it was basically forgotten. So now you know, and knowing is half the battle."
