Two things on this
1-Obviously, with only a handful of teams running this offense, it is effective because it is tough to prepare for. You can't get a good look from the scout team with only a few days to rep it. It is the same reason Wing-T is still effective for us, even at a HS with limited talent.

2-BYU can get the linemen needed to run a pro-style, west coast offense. The service academies can not, they need to cut and angle block to be successful. Ty's is not much different than a lot of the stuff Lavell did and the biggest downfall this season was not scheme, it was inconsistent play at the wideout and QB position and while the O-Line was great running the ball, pass pro was bad at times and a lot of that was what appeared to be confusion with making the right calls against certain fronts/blitzes and the fact that our tackles do not have very good feet right now. I expect that to change with recruiting and off season agility work (remember Eide was new to the program and Shoaf and Nwigne are young) We also didn't present a real threat to stretch the field so teams were more aggressive in coverage.

Give it time.
