Some kids are offered a grayshirt opportunity. They either take that or find
another school. It seems most end up just moving on to a different school.
A gray shirt is when let's say a kid graduates high school in May, 2017. He then doesn't enroll in school until January, 2018. He is then able to participate in spring ball and be more acclimated to the team and ready to go for the fall 2018 season. His scholarship also counts towards the 2018 allotment, and not 2017.
