I don't ever buy true ice shoes. I run around 120--150 miles from Nov through January. Most of it is on ice & snow. I tried yaktraks but they curl my toes & aren't very safe on dry asphalt patches. So I take on old pair of running shoes (brooks ghost this year) & I put short sheet metal screws on the soles around the edges of the toes from the ball of my foot around. I then put 6-8 screws around the heel. Works really well.
I've been wanting to try Hokas for awhile & I got a screaming deal on them the other day.
