football players and even basketball players (ie Jimmer) that could very well have succeeded if they happened upon the the right situation, and were given a reasonable opportunity to succeed. Please don't get me wrong. I'm totally happy for Sorenson, and I don't discount the fact that he has likely worked his tail off to succeed as he has at the pro level. And, I hope he somehow paves the way for more BYU athletes to do the same. But, I just think it's simplistic to assume that Sorenson succeeded because he just had more talent than guys like John Beck, Jimmer, and many others who just didn't plop into a guy like Holmgren's lap, where Sorenson was given every opportunity to play to his strengths and succeed. Pro sports is a tough business, and it's just too bad so many players who could otherwise possibly have a great career get snuffed out by landing into bad situations.
