You're way off with your assertion that players don't get coached in the NBA.
Smart teams love to land players with upside and develop them. They become high value players because they end up being severely underpaid if they develop. San Antonio's Kawhi Leanard is the prime example of this. The spurs completely rebuilt his jump shot so he could play on the perimeter. Gordon Hayward spent almost every day last summer working with jazz coaches. If NBA scouts like a player's upside and work ethic, you better believe someone will take a chance on that player.
