maybe he's a little over-confident but I think he's more determined than...
...anything. When Cortes landed in Central America he ordered his men to burn the ships. There was no going back and he wanted to fix that determination in their minds as a motivator. Mika didn't "burn the ships" so he obviously isn't over-confident or he would've removed any chance at returning imo.
