Replacing the section of wood isn't difficult or expensive
The real concern is that you definitely want to find where the water is getting in and fix that problem.

The best way to find out if water is getting in is to look at it from the bottom side in the attic. Heat and humidity

The question is: Fix just that spot or do a full tear off and replacement.
