but more importantly, if they don't notice or don't care about the added stress their driving/parking habits put on their car, I'm not confident in the way they care for their vehicle overall.

Use your parking brake to take the weight of your vehicle and then put your car in Park (or gear)

Park, put it in neutral and then put the parking break on, leave key in ignition
