Re: Nashif leaving for business opportunities and unwarranted conclusions. Of
course, CB will always have tons of people leaping to unwarranted conclusions. It's the nature of the internet beast. Especially when you have this many people as interested in BYU sports as most of us are.

But here's a newsflash: Nashif not pursuing another coaching job somewhere else doesn't mean he isn't/wasn't passionate about coaching. People in the real world make decisions all the time that don't take their career to its highest possible trajectory. And they do it on purpose. It doesn't mean they aren't good at their job or that they aren't dedicated to their profession. My dad worked for a large company based out of Southern California. They wanted him to move there for a decade before he finally did. He passed up promotions multiple times. He always had a child in high school and didn't want to move while one of his kids was in the middle of high school. He ultimately did move after the last of his kids had graduated. He was voracious about gaining skills and knowledge about the things he did. He worked insanely long hours on salary. His not moving his family had nothing to do with his ability or his work ethic or enthusiasm for the job. You can debate whether he should have placed such a high value on not interrupting a kid's high school career. But I bring it up to illustrate that other factors come into play. And they should come into play. How sad would it be if we all always made life decisions based on what would further our career the most.

Almost every career move I've made could be viewed as a step away from the highest trajectory for my career in terms of prestige. But other things have come into play.

And I echo the sentiment of those saying we should refrain from celebrating and kicking a guy when he's down when he's devoted a lot of energy to doing his best to make BYU as good as he could help make it. We may have differing opinions about the job certain coaches are doing. But our reactions in moments like this can say more about us than they say about them. And that isn't always a good reflection on us.
