So I'm not great at this, but here's my theory about why he might still be good
Texas is loaded with great recruits. Schools try and make it a point to play there so they can get more exposure to the recruiting scene. I figure with all these great prospects, many of the schools see that the kid is fast and plays good competition, but he's also on the small side for his position. Why take a chance on him when many of them have their pick of RBs with better size? BYU OTOH sees a lightly recruited kid with good speed playing against good competition and takes it as a chance to swoop in and offer him before anyone else takes a more serious look at him. Make a good impression, get a kid with some good upside, and perhaps draw attention in the process and see if BYU's offer makes some other schools take a second look. That's my estimation anyway.

This line of thinking combined with kalani's track record of offering guys early who then later blow up, I think chances are good the kid at least has a lot of potential
