The event has been running for over 15 years and was started by a local Doctor who served a lot of lower income and Medicaid patients. Every year he hosts a Mother's Day dinner for women in all of the local shelters. There was childcare for their kids, we served a catered dinner, there was a Jazz band and a Mariachi band for entertainment. All women had the chance to get their hair and nails done. Everyone went home with a backpack full of makeup and other items. It was pretty cool. There were about 400 women there.
