so much of any potential benefit that comes from it, isn't measurable. my
parents never got me into sports as a kid, so i didn't play organized sports until High School, yet i still had a great childhood and was happy - still lettered in two HS sports. my parents would say they did things right. my kids, on the other hand, play competitive sports and have stuff seemingly constantly. they are also happy and have good childhoods - my son is going to have to fight to make varsity in HS - so much competition. the ROI is just impossible to measure, but I'd say we did things right despite doing the opposite of what my parents did.

ultimately, if your kids like it and you think its good for them, you do it.
